HISTORY

The Northern New Jersey Council, Boy Scouts of America was formed January 1, 1999 as a result of the consolidation of the former Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Passaic Councils, which was approved by volunteers from all four councils in September 1998.

  

Council Organization

The Northern New Jersey Council is a self supporting non-profit corporation in the State of New Jersey. The council is given a charter by the National Council, Boy Scouts of America, to operate the Scouting program in northern New Jersey and is governed by an executive board of community and business leaders.

Facilities

The council operates six properties. The NNJC operates a service center and full service Scout Shop, in Oakland. The council operates six camps that are available for day camping, hiking, weekend camping, leader training and summer camps. During the summer, Cub Scout Day Camp is in operation at one location, as well as Cub Scout Resident Camp, Boy Scout summer camp at two locations, and High Adventure camping.
