The Merit Badge Fair is an opportunity for scouts who have completed merit badge requirements to meet with counselors to get their blue cards signed.  No teaching occurs at this event.  All work must be done in advance.  Further details including the Procedures/Rules Guide and the Merit Badge Fair Counselor List are on the next pages.

 

All scouts must wear official BSA uniform and bring a blue card in order to participate.

 

Contact a volunteer from the Merit Badge Fair Counselor list by November 14, 2017 to schedule an appointment to have your requirements reviewed.  Call early to guarantee an appointment for the fair.

Participation:

  1. 1. Merit Badge Fair is open to any registered Boy Scout regardless of district or council affiliation.

  2. 2. All Scouts MUST wear official BSA uniform, no T-Shirts.

  3. 3. All participants and guests are to follow the Scout Oath and Law

  4. 4. Any Scout will be denied access to the program for failing to abide by the rules.

    Registration Procedures:

    Scouts are scheduled on a first contact, first serve basis. Therefore, call or e-mail a counselor from the Merit Badge Fair Counselor list early to schedule an appointment with a counselor. No Walk-in registrations will be permitted.   The Merit Badge Fair Counselor list is located at the end of this document. 

  5. 1. Scouts should contact Merit Badge Counselors, volunteering for this event, via phone or e-mail to schedule an appointment to have their requirements reviewed.If the counselor already has eight scouts registered, they will direct the boy to call another counselor on the list.Note: Scouts, not parents, must make contact.

  6. 2. Sessions will be scheduled for 15 to 30 minutes at the counselor’s discretion.

     

    Requirements:

  7. 1. Review the prerequisites for each merit badge with the counselor.  Plan accordingly based on your conversation with the counselor.

  8. 2. All Scouts are required to bring the following items to the Merit Badge Fair:

    1. a. Blue cards signed by your Scoutmaster or his designee. Blue cards will not be made available to Scouts at the event.
      b. Prerequisites for your merit badge as discussed with the counselor. Certain requirements may need verification from Scoutmaster or another adult. Bring a signed letter describing your completion of a requirement to get credit.
      c. MB worksheets for merit badges are available at http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Merit_Badge_Worksheets.
      Complete and print the worksheets.(Additionally, we strongly recommend bringing the official Merit Badge Booklets or find requirements and information at http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/BoyScouts/AdvancementandAwards/MeritBadges.aspx  

                          d. Paper or notebook
                          e. Writing instrument – pen, pencil

  1. 3. Completion of a merit badge is not guaranteed by your attendance. All work required must be done and approved. Scouts will earn credit for those items completed. Those items will be indicated and signed off on the back of the blue card.
