Scouting for Food Update

Greetings Scouters

In April, the Ramapo Valley District held its annual Scouting for Food Drive.  Together, we collected over 5000 lbs. of food.  That’s over 2 ½ tons of food!  All of these items go to feed the hungry families in our communities.  If we look at our District membership, we collected just over a pound of food per scout.

While we certainly will look to increase our collection next year, please take a look at your unit’s Scouting For Food efforts now and make food collection a regular part of your program. Perhaps designate a parent to be the Scouting For Food Coordinator.   Anytime is a great time to run an impromptu food drive – encourage scouts to bring a bag of food to a Pack Meeting, Troop Meeting, etc.  The needs are always great in our area.  The summer months are notoriously hard on food pantries with children out of school and families on vacation.  If your unit runs a 12-month program, consider taking a collection this summer.  Have your scouts help deliver the food.  It is always an “eye opening” experience.  If you have any questions or suggestions about Scouting For Food, please contact Lisa Dell Antonia, Ramapo Valley District Program Chair Lisa@dellantonia.com

Thanks again to all who participated this year in the Ramapo Valley District Scouting For Food Drive.  Please do not forget to log in your service hours using the “service hours” tab to the left.
