Adult Training Courses: Exploring

Home › Training › Adult Training Courses: Exploring

Exploring Advisors are volunteers, aged 21 and older, who excel in their career fields.

They have volunteered their time and skills to be advisors and choose to work with the Exploring program. They enjoy sharing their knowledge and experience in their career field with youth.

Required Exploring Courses

All adult positions in Exploring need to complete Youth Protection Training and the position-specific training for your registered Scouting position

FAQ

I’m an Exploring Post Advisor – what’s required to be “100% trained”?

  1. Youth Protection Training

The Boy Scouts of America places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. Every adult must be current in Youth Protection Training (sometimes called “YPT” for short).

    • You may take Youth Protection Training in a self-paced online course through the Boy Scouts of America’s national web training center called My.Scouting.org.
    • The training must be renewed every two years.
  2. Hazardous Weather Training

This training discusses how to manage risks from the weather to our Scouting family.

    • You may take Hazardous Weather Training in a self-paced online course through the Boy Scouts of America’s national web training center called My.Scouting.org.
    • The training must be renewed every two years.
  3. Advisor-Specific Training

The Advisor is the key adult leader in an Explorer Post and is responsible for training post officers, helping them plan a program of activities, coaching them in their leadership responsibilities, and obtaining adult help and resources as needed through the post committee. Exploring Advisor Position-Specific Training will give you an introduction to everything you need to know about being an Advisor, from helping the post President and other youth leaders run the program to working with the post Committee.

    • Exploring Advisor Position-Specific Training is available anytime at no cost through the Training section of My.Scouting.org.

I’m an Exploring Post Committee Chair or Member – what’s required to be “100% trained”?

  2. Post Committee Training

The Committee leads the post committee and serves as the liaison between the post and the participating organization (the agency or business that sponsors the post). Exploring Committee Training will give you an introduction to everything you need to know about being a Committee Chair, including how to plan your post’s yearly program, recruit new youth members, raise money for your post, and evaluate your program’s success.

    • Exploring Post Committee Training is available anytime at no cost through the Training section of My.Scouting.org.
